Your First Session at the Studio: What Really Happens, and How to Arrive Relaxed

Published on April 24, 2026 · Katrin Studio Team

Most women who arrive at the studio for the first time admit the same thing after the session: "I was nervous for nothing." But the fear is real, and it's the number one reason women postpone their first session for months, even years. This guide was written for you, with direct answers to the fears almost no one says out loud.

The Real Fears, and Honest Answers

"What if I'm the least flexible person there?"

You won't be. And even if you are, it doesn't matter. Reformer Pilates doesn't require flexibility to start, it builds it. The springs on the machine support you in every movement, so you train within the range that suits your body today. A practitioner who managed to lift her leg 30 degrees in her first session will reach 60 degrees after two months. That's the process, not an entry requirement.

"What if everyone sees I don't know what I'm doing?"

They won't. In a group of up to 8 women, everyone is focused on their own body, their breath, and the exercise. Katrin moves between practitioners and corrects quietly, usually with a light touch or a personal cue. Nobody is watching you, because nobody is "finishing first." Pilates isn't a competition.

"What if I hurt myself?"

That's a valid concern, which is why the first session always begins with an assessment. Katrin will ask about past injuries, limitations, surgeries, pregnancy, back or neck pain. Every exercise gets adapted. If something hurts, you say so, and the adjustment is immediate. The machine itself is safer than a mat, because it keeps movement in a controlled range and prevents sudden load on the joints.

"What if I'm the oldest one there?"

Most of our practitioners are between 35 and 60. Some started after 50 with no fitness background. Age is not a barrier in Reformer Pilates, it's exactly the reason the method works, it preserves and builds strength, stability, and range of motion precisely at the age when the body needs them most.

Minute by Minute, What Happens in Your First Session

10 minutes before the session: You arrive at the studio in Afula. There's parking nearby. Katrin greets you, you sit together for a few minutes for a conversation about your goals, your body, and what brought you here. No long forms. It's a human conversation.

Minutes 1 to 10 of the session: Warm-up on the machine. Small, controlled movements that connect you to your breath and core. Here you learn how the machine responds, how the springs work, and how to position your body. No pressure to do anything "right" yet.

Minutes 10 to 40: The body of the workout. Core, legs, back, and arm exercises, all matched to your level. Katrin will add or reduce resistance as needed. If an exercise is too hard, there's an easier variation. If it's too easy, there's a progression.

Minutes 40 to 50: Stretching and cool-down. The body lengthens, the breath settles. Here you feel the first difference, a bit more stability, a bit more body awareness.

What to Wear, What to Bring

  • Clothing: Leggings or tights, a fitted top. Avoid loose clothing that could catch in the springs.
  • Feet: Grip socks (available at the studio) or barefoot.
  • To drink: A small water bottle, especially in summer.
  • A personal towel: To place on the machine, for hygiene and a more comfortable feel.
  • An hour before: Eat something light, not a heavy meal. Fruit or a slice of bread with a spread is perfect.

After the Session, What to Expect

The next day you'll feel muscles you didn't know you had. It's not pain from injury, it's the soreness of deep muscles that woke up, mainly the deep core, the back, and the pelvic muscles. The feeling usually fades within 48 hours, and after the second session it's already much milder.

After three sessions most practitioners report two things, "I stand straighter without thinking about it" and "my back is less tired at the end of the day." That's not magic, that's the deep core starting to work.

Questions to Ask Yourself Before Booking

  • Do I have an active injury? If so, bring a medical clearance.
  • Am I in the first three months postpartum? If so, we'll adapt with specific exercises.
  • Am I pregnant? We accept pregnant practitioners with medical clearance.
  • Do I have a specific goal? Back pain, posture, weight loss, returning to training after a break, any reason is a good one.

The Next Step

The easiest way to get rid of the fear is to book a trial session. One session, at a reduced price, with no commitment to continue. You come, you try it, and you see for yourself.
